A Salute to the Stars and Bars this Independence Day

Independence Day means so many different things to different people.  For some it’s another 4 day weekend, for others it’s BBQ time and for a few it stands for freedom, life and liberty.

Independence Day

My view of Independence Day has evolved as I’ve gotten older.  The 4th of July has always been a time for tanning, eating hot dogs, listening to loud music and watching fireworks.  And in many ways it still is.  But it has also grown into so much more.  Especially since I married my husband.

I Am SO Proud of My Husband and What He Does

My husband has been in the Army since 2006 and on active duty since 2010.  In that time he has deployed multiple times to Afghanistan, Africa, and Korea.  He participated in both combat and peace keeping missions during those times.  For me, the peace keeping missions hit closest to home.  He played with orphans, organized clothing drives and provided beds, pack and plays, and cribs to small children who had never slept in beds before.  His unit provided security to locals who would have otherwise been prey to terrorist regimes.

When I think about the birth of our nation, our Independence Day, I can’t help but think about some of these other nations.  For whatever reason, they are not able to secure their own borders.  Thank goodness the United States is able to help these people.  What would have happened to us in 1776 without the manpower and knowhow to fight back?

While my husband was deployed he missed birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries.  It makes me feel so much better knowing that while we are missing him, he is making a major impact on other people’s lives.

I Hope People All Over the World Get to Celebrate Their Own Independence Day

I get to lay poolside, drinking margaritas, listening to my kids splashing thanks to the American soldier.  And thanks to modern American Soldiers, one day, more people across the globe will be celebrating their own independence day.

  1. I hope you have a great 4th! I come from a military family but we look at as a day to eat, drink, and be merry. Love seeing other points of views.

  2. Yes, yes yes! That is one thing we speak to our children about often! We explain to them that because there are people fighting for our country, that we even get to enjoy days like that. Please thank him for our service, it means the world to us and thank YOU for what you do for your family so he can do what he does.
