PCS season is in full swing and if you’re gearing up for a move, I feel for you. Your boxes are packed, the suitcases are jammed in the back of the truck with your dog. But you feel like you’re missing something. There’s one PCS must have item that I’m sure you’re forgetting… Your streaming stick!
Seriously, You’re Worried About TV at a Time Like This
I know, I know…. you’re wondering what I’m smoking. There’s so much to remember (did you pack the kids allergy meds?!) that the last thing you’re thinking of is your streaming stick. Even if you remembered to shove it somewhere, is it easily accessible, nightly?! Seriously, mine is in my makeup bag when I PCS.
Wondering why I say a streaming stick is so important? Think about it. You’ll spend several nights on the road and who knows how long in a hotel before you get the keys to your new home. I wish I could say that all of our PCSs were these epic road trips that bonded our family and made memories to last a lifetime… But guess what. They weren’t. One was. Record books level. The other ones? Full of stressed out gas/bathroom breaks interrupted by stays at various mid-level hotels. Have you ever tried to watch TV at a hotel? What’s with those channels? Can’t find anything and who knows the local schedule of programs in Monroe, Louisiana?!
Just plug in your streaming stick and you can have all the TV you want. When it was just my husband and I, I would devour an episode of Real Housewives while he showered. Once the kids invaded, Paw Patrol helped distract them long enough for me to un pack the necessities. Sometimes TV is all you have energy for.
Are Some Better Than Others?
Don’t have a streaming device? There are a few on the market, but I suggest a Roku. We’ve had a Roku for years and absolutely love it. We found it to be the best of all worlds as far as streaming devices go. You get access to all the major content available via streaming. The Roku player is like having your own video library at home with tons of choices – from the best movies, TV shows to sports. The Roku player is the easiest way to watch anything and everything from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, MLB.com, Pandora and more instantly on your TV. It’s also a small investment in the grand scheme of things. Last I checked you could pick one up at the Roku website for 34.99. After using ours for a few months we ended up cutting the cord and going cable free. So it paid for itself in about 2 weeks.
Do I wish we were the type of family who could have an intellectual conversation while unwinding in our hotel room after a whole day in the car? Sure. But I’ve actually never met a family who could. If you know of any, send me their info. I’ve got a few questions for them.
